A short segment of the Trail of Tears is barely evident in the Leoni Community. The landscape is now crossed with barbed and woven wire fencing and dotted with churches, homes, businesses, and cemeteries.  I chose to omit the new and to change the gold and green vegetation to cold blues as I imagined the frigid November 1838 temperatures and hateful conditions the Cherokee people must have endured as they were forced from their homes.
