My hand-quilted quilt began as a painting project three years ago. I combined my love of painting and my love of music by creating images on pages of printed music, most of it from piano music I practiced as a child. I attached the pages of music to cradled panels, painted the images in gouache, and shellacked the finished paintings.
This year I combined my love of painting and music with my love of fabric art. I uploaded each painted image to Spoonflower, producing the image in fabric. I combined the fabric images in the composition I preferred and stitched them together. Next, I pinned the top into my quilting frame with a layer of cotton batting and lining to produce this quilt.
I quilted it by hand, following the staff lines of the music and important lines and movements within each image. Thus, each block has a unique quilting design.
Enjoy!
